Mariana Kubištová CZECH ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE 1920s TO THE 1950s Abstract The thesis Czech Architectural Photography in the 1920s to the 1950s presents the theme of architecture photography, from the 1920's to the 1950's, focusing on Czech cultural setting, observing photography meeting contemporary acts in the field of architecture, thus the photography of modern architecture. It methodologically researches the theme from a visual study viewpoint; however it applies a little more traditional approaches, which try to define architecture photography depending on functions it carries out; to demarcate its various categories, describe its history and name some of its important representatives. Each of these approaches is able to capture a different aspect of the observed theme. The first part of the thesis attempts to answer what architecture photography is, what we can qualify as architecture photography and how we can approach and interpret it. It summarizes research and knowledge of this field up till now, not just within Czech cultural setting but also abroad. Separeted librarries - Library of Karel Teige

The main goal of this thesis titled Separated libraries - Library of Karel Teige is based on Teige's important life events to pursue his creative activity and to connect it with his personal library. This topic will form the first part of the thesis - split into period of Devetsil and Surrealist group. In the second part, I deal with the issue of Teige's separated library and its further destiny after 1951. I focus primarily on Teige's estate in the Museum of Czech Literature and on its composition. An important item of this second part are letters between the Ministry of National Security - Headquarters of State Security and the National Security Secretary, which describe an event between the intervention of the State Security into the apartment of Karel Teige and depositing Teige's estate to the National Museum Library. This thesis should help to clarify how Teige's library was separated and where it was deposited.

PhDr. Jan Wiendl, Ph.D. Abstract In the first half of the 1920's, in the Czech avant-garde, a new art began to form - Poetism. On the basis of individual manifests and programmatic articles it was defined as modus vivendi. In the 1920's many principles and ideas were shaping the future, not only for the society, but also for the artistic movements. Poetism featured mainly an original concept of art and life; the authors of theoretical articles were mainly Karel Teige and Vítězslav Nezval. Within a few years the concept of life as a careless game and a source of joy faded and bitter- sweet topics began to penetrate Poetism. At this time, the poetics of Poetism changed from the original cheerfulness and everyday beauty to serious existential topics - the evidence is provided by many works of art. Graphic design of Czech interwar avantgarde magazines and its creators

Diploma thesis Graphic design of Czech interwar avant-garde magazines and its creators deals with yet not very well covered topic of analysation of visual form of First Czechoslovak Republic cultural magazines that contains some of the avant-garde methods in its graphics. This thesis in its theoretical part relies on foreign influences, mainly on Russian constructivism, Dutch De Stijl artistic movement and German school of Bauhaus that played major part in shaping of the Czech avant-garde. With regard to the main topic of the text the emphasis is on specifics of graphic magazine creation and design, specifically on the works of Karel Teige, Ladislav Sutnar and František Muzika. The practical part of the thesis is then dedicated to three avant-garde magazine analyses. Journals ReD, Žijeme and HOST represent three different approaches of how the creators were able to work all avant-garde elements in the graphic form of the periodicals. In the analysis the attention is paid mainly on the front pages, composition, fonts, image components, other graphic elements that make up the whole visual aspect of every page and graphic form of advertising. Abstract This thesis focuses on the situation of a substantial subject in the historical development of the surrealist experience and confronts it with our original postmodern interpretation of thoughts of early Marx. The surrealist consciousness is based on a dialectical opposition between rational and irrational elements of cognitive processes. André Breton apprehends this dialectics under the perspective of love life and relates it to values of love, freedom and poetry. Nevertheless, this conception changes in the immanent development of the surrealist consciousness from Breton over the work and thoughts Salvador Dalí and Mikuláš Medek to Vratislav Effenberger. Effenberger removes positive values from surrealism and puts emphasis on the critical functions of the irrational. On the psychological field, all these ideas are based on the conception of the unconscious which means there is the substantial approach in them. Dissertation Abstract Introduction to the conceptual basis of Vratislav Effenberger's thought (Dialectics of the genesis of the concept of idea models) Mgr. Šimon Svěrák The thesis introduces a reader to the basic aspects of the theoretical system of Vratislav Effenberger, the main theoretician of post-war Czech surrealism. It does so through the construction of a developmental dialectic of the main concepts of Effenberger's work of the 1960s, which culminates in the concept of so-called idea models. In this period, Effenberger primarily addresses the question of the nature of the existential forms of the concept of total meaning in the post-war social and psychological situation. He formulates his reflections as a critical reassessment of the theoretical legacy of Karl Teige and a question of the possibility of further continuity of the Surrealist worldview. The thesis demonstrates that Effenberger first rejects the notion of ultimate meaning, through which psychosocial reality can be grasped as a meaningful whole, and replaces it with a notion of conflict. However, the internal logic of his theoretical system gradually leads him to the conclusion that human consciousness cannot exist without the idea of ultimate meaning and that such meaning exists only in the form of the idea model. The bachelor thesis deals with the communist-oriented cultural-political magazine Doba, published in 1934-1935. In addition to heuristic and descriptive activities, the work also includes an analysis of left-wing ideological attitudes, especially in authors whose surrealistic interests in literature were developed simultaneously with the ideology of socialist realism in magazine Doba. The analysis of individual cases is examined within the contemporary social and cultural context, while also focusing on comparison with other contemporary periodicals.
Modern Architecture and The Concept of Space

Their ideas involved the next evolution way of the modern architecture. Furthermore, this work deals with psycho-social terms of space in the Czech discourse and it points out why was the idea of functionalism, in its purely technical form, unsustainable.

Karel Teige's Book cover as a mirror of the avant-garde

The thesis deals with the issue of linking visual representation of a literary work of art, especially with the connection of Karel Teige typographical book envelopes to the poetry collections of Czech authors of the first half of the twentieth century. It focuses on the period of Czech avant-garde and new possibilities and limits of genre, artistic and semiotic definition. Attention is also devoted to contemporary anthology, professional journals and articles, especially by Karel Teig's production, in which he illustrates his concept of modern art. It also includes the marketing and aesthetic-educational character of visual imagery in literature for children and youth.
